You've realized that adding extra non-slip, color-coded hangers won't help you organize the chaos in your wardrobe. Here are some suggestions to get you started on the path to closet bliss.
Pulling everything out of the closet will allow you to start again with a blank slate. Use damp rags to clean the floor, shelves, and clothing racks in the closet. Prepare shopping bags to be filled with donations.
After everything is out, you must select what belongs in the closet again and what should be donated. You could ask a buddy you can trust for advice to assist you make this choice. You can also ask these four (4) questions to help them decide:

Have I worn it within the last year?
Will I ever fix things that are broken or require alterations?
Does it make me feel good?

Your responses should help you decide whether to sell, donate, or retain the clothing. So that you don't have time to second-guess your choice, deliver the bags of clothing immediately away to a nearby clothing donation box. You don't want the clothing that has been designated for donation to end up back in the closet. Investigate online marketplaces that offer cash for lightly used clothes, shoes, purses, and costume jewelry as another option.
Decide how you want to arrange your stuff after that. This can be done, for example, by color, kind of clothing, whole ensembles, or length of clothing. Another useful method for classifying items by kind, such as jeans, khakis, sweaters, suits, and dresses, is to use rack tags.
Check to see if your present storage system is effective. You are not required to spend money constructing shelves for your closet. There are inexpensive vertical hanging shelves that attach to your existing clothes pole. Shoes, handbags, scarves, and t-shirts can all be stored on these racks. Even some have drawers. To get shoes off the floor, where they gather dust, use stackable shoe bins. To hold several pairs of pants in one location, look for multiple pant hangers.
Lastly, consider the unused closets in other rooms in your home that can be used for seasonal items such as winter coats and jackets.
